Ordering a Blind for a Fakro Roof Window

Fakro plates show the window type and size in a different format from other brands. Here is how to read them and order the right blind.

Fakro roof window identification plate with the window type and window size fields labelled

Fakro roof windows are widely fitted in Ireland, and they use a code format that catches people out if they are used to other brands. The good news is that once you know where to look, a Fakro plate tells you everything you need to order a blind built for that window.

Where to find the Fakro plate

Open the window. The Fakro identification plate is on the sash frame, usually on the top or on one side when the window is open. It is a small metal plate with the Fakro name on it. The photo at the top of this article and our window code guide show a typical example.

Reading the plate

A Fakro plate typically shows three things:

  • Window type — letters and sometimes a version marker, for example a code in the FTP family. This identifies the window model.
  • Window size — usually shown as two numbers separated by a slash or a multiplication sign, such as 78/98 or 78×118. These numbers relate to the window's nominal width and height.
  • Other dimensions or numbers — some plates also carry a longer dimension in millimetres or a production reference.

For a blind, the two that matter are the window type and the size. Do not substitute the millimetre dimension for the size code, and do not round the size to the nearest standard number. If the plate shows something you do not recognise, send us a photo.

Matching the plate to the shop

On our Fakro page, choose your window type and then your size. Only blinds made for that exact combination appear. If you cannot find a match, that is useful information in itself: it may mean the window is an older or less common model, or that part of the code has been misread. In either case, get in touch before choosing something close.

Choosing fabric, frame and operation

Once the window is selected, the choices are the same as for any other brand.

  • Fabric: blackout for bedrooms and screens, translucent for brighter rooms where you want privacy and less glare. See our blackout vs translucent guide.
  • Frame: brushed aluminium (silver) or white painted aluminium. White is available with manual operation only.
  • Operation: manual with a handle or telescopic pole, or solar motorised with a remote. Solar blinds use the silver frame.

The product page shows the selling price and an estimated delivery date for the exact combination you pick, so you can compare options before adding anything to your basket.

Compatible blinds for Fakro windows

Fakro sells its own range of blinds. The blinds on our site are not made by Fakro; they are made by our supplier to fit Fakro windows using the window type and size, and they mount on the window in the same way a blind is designed to. We list them under Fakro so you can find your window easily.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Reading the size from the wrong line of the plate.
  • Ordering one size for a pair of windows without checking both plates.
  • Assuming a replacement window is the same size as the one it replaced.
  • Using an old blind's label as the only source. It may be right, but confirm against the window plate.

Several Fakro windows in one room

Larger attic rooms often have two or three Fakro windows, sometimes from different installation dates. Read each plate separately and order each blind against its own code. If you want the room to look consistent, choose the same fabric and frame colour for every window; the blinds will still be built individually for each window size. If one window is much higher than the others, you can mix operations, for example manual blinds within reach and a solar motorised blind for the high one, while keeping the same fabric throughout.

Fitting

Most roof window blinds fit to the window frame without drilling into the wall around it. Our installation page has short videos for manual and solar blinds so you can see what is involved before you order. If you are replacing an old blind, our replacement guide covers removing it first.
